According to U.S. News and World Report, The Vanguard School tops the list of Best High Schools as #1 in Colorado Springs, CO Metro Area High Schools and #7 out of all 368 Colorado High Schools. In other rankings, The Vanguard School ranked #306 out of 17,857 high schools, #137 in STEM high schools, and #72 in charter high schools nationally.

U.S. News and World Report gives schools a math and reading proficiency percent, state rank, and national rank based on the aggregated scores achieved by the school’s students on state assessments that the students may be required to pass in order to graduate. Currently, U.S. News and World Report reports a math proficiency of 87% and a reading proficiency of 97%. In comparison, the state’s math proficiency level is currently 40% and the state’s reading proficiency level is currently 60%

Vanguard’s math and reading proficiency levels are ranked #4 in the state and #170 nationally.  

AP Exams

The Vanguard School offered 13 AP Courses during the 2020-2021 school year, and 55% of all high school students took at least one AP exam. The exam pass rate (scoring a 3 or higher) was 90%.

The AP Exam results are crucial in determining the students’ readiness for college-level coursework. Therefore, students who passed AP exams are granted credit and placement in college.

The AP and College Preparation courses at The Vanguard School aim at giving the students an outlook of what the courses look like in college and how they might align with their future. Of all the students that enrolled, most chose math and science-related courses.

The Vanguard School does not offer IB programs.

ACT & SAT Test Scores

The average ACT composite score for The Vanguard School was 29 out of 36 for the 2020-2021 school year. The averages for each subject were as follows (out of 36):

Science – 27

Reading – 29

English – 30

The average SAT composite score for the 2020-2021 school year was 1310 out of 1600. The averages for the subjects were as follows (out of 800):

Math – 650

Verbal – 650

The Vanguard School’s students not only scored far above and outdid their 2019-2020 performance (27 on ACT and 1218 on SAT), but also outperformed both the district and state averages by a wide margin.

College Readiness

High school students can take AP exams and IB exams to earn college credit and demonstrate success at college-level coursework. The Vanguard School does not offer IB programs. However, The Vanguard School’s national percentile on college-level exams is currently 94.5% based on AP exam scores alone.
